Hello my friends…
I’m really thrilled by writing this post because I’m presenting you the most beautiful city in my country, the Macedonian pearl Ohrid. This city is situated in western Macedonia and it is the largest city on Ohrid Lake.
Ohrid dates from the Bronze Age, and it is notable for once having had 365 churches, one for each day of the year, and has been referred to as a “Jerusalem of the Balkans”.The city is rich in picturesque houses and monuments, and tourism is predominant.
In 1979 and in 1980, Ohrid and Lake Ohrid were accepted as Cultural and Natural World Herritage Sites by UNESCO. In fact, Ohrid is one of only 28 sites that are part of UNESCO’s World Heritage that are both Cultural and Natural sites.
Lake Ohrid will never disappoint you. The lake gives you calm and peaceful mind by just looking at it. The view of the town from the lake is worth the try.
Lake Ohrid is one of the places you’re never bored of. Every time of day changes your view on it and every hour you could experience something new.
There are so many different beaches, but also restaurants and bars by the lake so you can experience different every single day. You can enjoy your meal with an amazing view by the lake.
Taking a boat ride will give you magnificent and pleasing view of the city and all the surroundings.
One of most popular monuments, practically on every postcard of Ohrid is St. Jovan Kaneo Church. It is the main attraction, an absolutely charming church in wonderful location with stunning outlook and privileged spot where you can take amazing pictures.. I will definitely recommend you to visit it so do not miss it. 😀
The bay of the bones is one of the places that can not be missed, while being in Ohrid. It is such a beautiful location showing how early people lived on Lake Ohrid.
If you want to see something a bit different and learn about ancient Macedonian settlements and local archaeology make sure you visit here.
I’m pretty sure that these are not the only things to be seen in Ohrid, so if you want more I will definitely write another post about this masterpiece of city.
Till then Happy traveling…
