Happy Sunday lovelies,
And again I’m writing about my favorite country Greece and this time I’m incorporating food. (Isn’t that amazing?) We all love traveling. There’s sight-seeing, meeting new people, and new cultures, and let’s not forget about the endless amounts of Instagram posts. But the best part of all is the food.
Different areas of the world have so many new flavors and dishes that you would never even think of. And, there is always something fun to try. The possibilities are endless. Other than the picturesque landscapes, the food is one of the main, strong reasons I always go back to Greece. And let’s not forget about the Frappe.
Greece has so many islands and regions which means flavors of Greek food changes with season and geography. Today’s post will be about the food and places that I love visiting when in Halkidiki and Thessaloniki. Here are some of the favorites not to missed when traveling through Greece.
So let’s start with my all time favorite place. BLUE CARPET LUXURY SUITS is a hotel located a few minutes away from the center of village Pefkohori, Halkidiki. It has a huge pool and beach area with the most modern and comfortable sunbeds, and umbrellas. By paying 15 Euros, and ordering from their various menu for that amount, you get to use their facilities even though you are not staying in the hotel. The staff is super friendly and always there to attend you. I totally recommend their chicken salad. It is the best one you’ll try I promise. Also there are many options for everyone, such as omelets, baguettes with different fillings, club sandwiches, and many refreshing smoothies and coffees. The price tag is definitely on the pricier side, for example the salad is 12 Euros, the baguette is 8 Euros, the smoothies are 8 Euros, the Frappe is 4 Euros but you get to enjoy the whole experience which justifies everything.
The next one is a beach bar that I do not recommend but I wanted to share my experience. ACHINOS BEACH BAR – SEAS is a beach bar/club situated in Chaniotis the village next to Pefkohori again in Halkidiki. So this place is super pretty and well set up but their staff and service is on a really bad place. I’ve visited so many luxury beach clubs and non of the stuff behaved as bad as this particular one. So the go by reservation which is ok, but It seems that they wait for the royals to come and to have the first row disposable for them. Will charge you 10 Euros for a sunbed but if you are a group of 4 people they don’t give you 4 sunbeds but 2 pillows and 2 sunbeds and 1 umbrella. If you are paying that much you expect a good service and good atmosphere right. For me this is not acceptable and I hope they’ll change their service so I can go and enjoy the beach.
Excluding this place, Greeks know how to do tourism, especially the restaurants. After so many years coming back to this country, I haven’t tried a bad dish and that’s why I wanted to do a post about it. What I love about Greek restaurants and lounge bars is that they always give you something free from the house. Either going to be fruit salad or sweets that’s a detail that change the game. I wanted to give a shoutout to the best seafood restaurant in Halkidiki, BAKALIS. If you are seafood lover and eater this is definitely a must visit place. It is always packed and with a good reason. The calamari (squads) are the tastier I’ve tried and you get to enjoy them by the sea, with an amazing view. The price tag is normal, fried squad dish is around 8 Euros, Greek Salad is 6 Euros and after finishing your lunch or dinner you get the best dessert on the house. If visiting Halkidiki do not miss this place.
I’m positive you’ve all heard about the Greek Gyro ad this is something you must try while in Greece. Can be found on every corner and it is around 2-3 Euros depending on your location. You get to choose chicken or pork. Just try it and you’ll thank me later 🙂 🙂
I also wanted to include some of my favorite restaurants in Thessaloniki. I picked 3 and with a good reason. LES ZAZOUS and SHARK BAR & RESTAURANT are located in Kalamaria an urban area, located about 7 kilometers southeast of downtown Thessaloniki. Both give you an amazing sea view and offer good food and drinks menu.
On of the most touristic place in Thessaloniki is the ELECTRA PALACE GARDEN ROOF. This is a roof garden restaurant that Hotel Electra Palace has and it is located in the city center offering an gorgeous view of Aristotelous square . If you are roof restaurant lover it’s something that needs to be visit.
Lastly if you are a party junkie and if you want to experience the Halkidiki nightlife at its fainest you must visit PEARL CLUB. This is not your usual night club but a show with the most amazing music and lights. Any explanation does not justify this place so click on the video or give it a visit and let me know if is your cap of tea. The ticket is 12 Euros with drink including.
I think this is more then enough for this post because I can go with a lot more. Let me know your thought, what is you favorite, have you been to Greece and tried Greek food..
Till next time…
